About us

Our vision is simple:

For learners:

Enable collaborative, human-connected online learning experiences

For trainers:

A simple and easy design process to create, publish and measure engaging learning experiences at scale

Our goal is to democratise quality learning for everyone, while trying to build a sustainable  business model and create positive social impact. This is why we offer a free version of Gamoteca to individual trainers and learners with no functional limitations, while offering subscription-based services (Pro and Enterprise) and design consulting to help larger teams and companies scale and collaborate.

Vision & Mission

We believe there is a false choice between experiential face-to-face learning and self-guided eLearning content. We believe that the changing nature of work increasingly requires new types of soft skills. Only an immersive and practice-based learning experience can be effective in developing and maintaining these skills. Pre-industrial learning models were based on personalised, practice-based, storytelling approaches that built on personal relationships between the learner and mentor. Peer-to-peer tasks in learning groups also taught students how to collaborate and work in teams.

Our mission is to bring this human-centred approach back to the digital age with a more personal and social touch.

We believe that an immersive, contextualised and social learning approach prepares you better for a joyful and productive working life that is rich in personal connections.

We want to make this way of learning available for as many people as possible and want to democratise quality learning access and creation.

We value human-to-human learning as important because we are convinced that real social change can only be reached by connecting people and sharing experiences.

Our story

Gamoteca was launched in 2016 with the aim of using mobile devices to simulate real-life environments in learning. Developed in coordination with the United Nations and several international organisations, it was originally designed to train humanitarians to respond to the increasingly complex needs of disasters. This was done through the creation of ‘serious games’ and simulation exercises for crisis response training, e.g. dealing with security threats.

We conducted a number of pilots and published research on the effectiveness of game-based learning, before launching Gamoteca as an open access platform in 2019. Since then we have supported a range of clients in the private, non-profit and academic . We have worked with partners to create a number of human-connected learning experiences on:

  • Coaching & mentoring
  • Onboarding
  • Bias in the workplace
  • Staying motivated while working remotely
  • Design thinking
  • Re-imagining future skills
