Reflections from the OEB Conference: A New Chapter in EdTech

Attending the OEB Conference as part of the “30 Under 30” cohort in Berlin this November was an eye-opening experience. Working at a learning experience platform, hoping to disrupt the EdTech space, I was immersed in discussions about the current and future state of learning, training, and behaviour change.

Amid the excitement and innovation, one theme stood out loud and clear: the EdTech sector is undergoing a dramatic transformation driven by AI. Yet, this transformation comes with challenges that deeply impact both users and providers of learning solutions.

The Role of AI in the Future of EdTech

I had the opportunity to speak on a panel addressing “The Future of EdTech,” where I shared Gamoteca’s mission: that the most valuable asset in the learning experience is human connection, and that is the future.

While job roles and descriptions may evolve at an unprecedented pace, what remains constant is the need to upskill and collaborate effectively with others. The tools we use—whether AI, VR, or AR—are enablers, not replacements for the human connections that drive meaningful learning and growth.

The Overwhelm of Rapid Technological Change

A recurring feeling among conference attendees was one of overwhelm. Educators and learners alike are grappling with the rapidly evolving formats and functionalities of AI-driven tools. The speed at which these technologies are being introduced often exacerbates this sense of disconnection.

Meanwhile, EdTech platforms are racing to embed AI, VR, AR, and other emerging technologies into their learning practices. However, this fervour often lacks a critical component: understanding the needs and barriers faced by the end users.

Balancing Technology and Human Connection

Some of the most impactful moments at OEB came from hearing educators share their stories. They described how they strive to integrate technology in ways that complement rather than overshadow the human element.

From using AI to personalise learning paths to employing VR to simulate real-world challenges, the goal remains the same: to empower learners while fostering a sense of community and collaboration.

Gamoteca’s Human-Centred Approach

This ethos resonates deeply with our approach at Gamoteca. Our platform is designed to bridge the gap between technological innovation and human-centred learning. By focusing on collaborative scenarios, peer feedback, and real-world application, we ensure that technology supports—rather than distracts from—the connections that make learning impactful and long-lasting.

The Power of Collaboration at OEB Conference

We also had the opportunity to run a “Learning Cafe” with attendees. For a small startup, these experiences are vital in helping us build our product and test with clients.

We saw how different people within the EdTech space wanted to use our product—for marketing, language learning, or on-the-shop-floor training. It was inspiring to see these ideas come to life! Meeting so many like-minded individuals who share our goal of improving EdTech by focusing on the most vital player in the market—humans—was a highlight of the conference.

Technology as a Bridge, Not a Barrier

As the EdTech sector continues to navigate this transformative era, the main takeaway is clear: technology should serve as a bridge, not a barrier.

The best way to prepare for the future is not to rely solely on tools but to leverage them to enhance our shared journey.

Success in learning—and in life—is not a solo endeavour. It’s a collaborative effort, and the more we prioritise human connection, the better equipped we’ll be to tackle whatever comes next.

If you need support in your learning journey, don't forget to check how Gamoteca can help.
